Bhubaneswar, May 26: The state vigilance department has decided to connect with the people through its Facebook page 'Odisha Vigilance.' Chief minister Naveen Patnaik will launch it tomorrow.
"The work on the Facebook page began last year and it would be officially launched tomorrow. Besides, a toll free number 1064 will also be introduced tomorrow," said additional director general of police K.B. Singh.
Officials said citizens could post their suggestions and complaints on the social media platform.
"Citizens can post confidential messages in the message box which would be strictly confidential. However, in case of any complaints we would verify the allegations," said a vigilance official.
The page would also display convictions in vigilance along with disproportionate assets case.
Earlier Bhubaneswar, Rourkela and Puri police had introduced similar pages on the social sites to receive feedbacks and suggestions from the public. The Facebook page of Bhubaneswar police, which was launched in November 2013, has received more than 13,000 likes. Besides, a number of citizens are also posting their suggestions, especially related to traffic management.
The Facebook page assumes significance since vigilance related cases are on a rise in the state. Statistics revealed that as many as 285 cases were registered in 2013 and the number of cases increased to 368 by December 23 last year. Cases were also registered against 48 Class I officials in 2013 and their number went up to 65 in 2014.
