Bhubaneswar, May 28: Senior Congress leader Jagdish Tytler today threatened to crack the whip on leaders who would indulge in an acts of indiscipline.
“All leaders and workers have to work for the growth of the party. All of them should support the new president and work hard to dislodge the corrupt Naveen Patnaik government,” said Tytler, who is visiting the state for the first time since Jaydev Jena took over the reins of the state Congress from Niranjan Patnaik.
Declaring that action will be taken against unruly leaders, Tytler, who is also the party’s Odisha in charge, said: “Indiscipline takes places in various ways. Some ventilate their anger either by abusing rivals or by writing articles. Indiscipline and factionalism by anybody, however big, will not be tolerated. We will give them one or two chances to fall in line. After that, action will be taken.”
Tytler said those who do not want to work for the party should resign. He also hinted that the party was unable to come power for the last 13 years owing to disunity in the leadership. After Jena was appointed the new state Congress president, speculations were rife that the party was divided into two camps.
“The Congress high command has given a free hand to Jena to strengthen the organisation. He will work as per the Congress plan to dislodge the Naveen Patnaik government from power,” Tytler said.
On being asked whether Jena was appointed as he was a Dalit, he said: “This is not correct. I don’t believe in this. It was the decision of the high command, which did its best in the present situation.”
