Bhubnaeswar: Vigilance sleuths traced a Mercedes Benz worth around Rs 40 lakh during raids on allegations of acquisition of disproportionate assets by Dhenkanal regional transport officer Basant Kumar Behera.

The anti-corruption wing traced properties worth Rs 3.85 crore of the Class I officer and his family members. The properties traced include three other vehicles worth Rs 23.16 lakh, seven plots in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar worth Rs 1.86 crore, a four BHK flat at Khandagiri worth Rs 60 lakh and bank balance worth Rs 47.07 lakh.

The vigilance raided Behera's residence at SCB, apartment at Khandagiri, residence at Ranihat, relative's house in Jajpur and his office in Dhenkanal. Sources said Behera's wife was working at SCB as a professor.

Vigilance sources said prior to his posting at Dhenkanal, Behera worked at the RTOs in Ganjam, Bargarh and Jagatsinghpur.

"The raids were conducted on the basis of a court warrant. We are also going through the income details of the officer and his family members to calculate the difference between his known sources of income and cost of assets," said a vigilance sleuth.

The sleuths conducted a raid on the residence of IAS officer Vinod Kumar, who was convicted in connection for misappropriation of funds on Tuesday. He was not present in his residence at Nayapalli.
