Trains cancelled

Bhubaneswar: Two trains —Trivandrum- Guwahati Express and Puri-Guwahati Express —have been cancelled on August 27 and 29, respectively due to heavy rains and water accumulation on the tracks under Northern Frontier. The railway tracks in these routes have been submerged, leading to disruption in the timings while routes of several trains have also been diverted. Due to operational reasons 58132 Puri-Rourkela Passenger has also been cancelled on August 28,a source said.

Appointments

Bhubaneswar: BJD president and chief minister Naveen Patnaik appointed spokesperson and panellists on Sunday. Sulochana Das, a popular media personality, who switched her loyalty from the Congress to the BJD recently, was appointed as spokespersons. In the list of panellists, Naveen gave berth to 11 persons, including Lenin Mohanty, a popular debater.

Houses on fire

Bhubaneswar: Six houses were gutted while seven cattle charred to death in a major fire that broke out late last night at Danduasipara village in Puri district.

Besides, properties worth lakhs of rupees have been damaged, including three bikes and four bicycles. The exact reason of fire is still unknown. The villagers alleged that no official of the district administration has yet come to take stock of the situation.

Electrocution

Bhubaneswar: A man was killed and another person was injured due to electrocuted as they  came in contact with a high voltage wire laid by poachers as trap for wild animals at Thuamal Rampur block in Bhawanipatna. According to reports, Kabi and his son had gone to a nearby field and while returning both of them came in contact with the electric wire on Saturday.

Woman woes

Bhubaneswar: A pregnant woman was carried on a cot to Lanjigarh block in Kalahandi as there were no ambulance services in the area due to absence of roads.
