Town to wear cleaner look - Sambalpur gets new panel on sanitation

Sambalpur, Oct. 4: The district administration has decided to initiate measures to keep the town clean as poor sanitation continues to a be major cause of concern for its residents.

Sub-collector Rainu Singh convened an emergency meeting of the Sambalpur municipality on Wednesday, to hold a discussion on the on the decline of sanitation.

“Sanitation in the town is getting worse day-by-day. The revenue divisional commissioner, northern division and the Sambalpur collector have expressed concern over the poor sanitation situation. To discuss about the problem, a meeting was recently held at the municipality,” said Singh.

The chairperson, councillors and the executive officer of Sambalpur Municipality were present in the meeting.

“Two committees have been formed to supervise sanitation standards in the town. The committees will supervise and review the measures,” said Singh. The sub-collector will head the committees.

Chairperson of Sambalpur Municipality Kalpana Sahu said: “Sanitation of the 15 wards in the town is looked after by a private company, while the remaining 14 wards are being looked after by the municipality. The committees, which have been formed, will supervise the work of the private firm as well as that of the municipality cleaning staff regularly.”
