Theatre festival to begin in July

Bhubaneswar, June 22: After a brief pause, the theatre season is back again to regale audiences in the city. It would start with a one-day Mousumi Theatre Festival organised by Bhubaneswar-based theatre group, Satabdira Kalakar on Thursday evening.

On this occasion, the famous play Cham Cham Ra Khel written by Bengali actor, director and playwright, Manoj Mitra would be staged at Rabindra Mandap at 7pm.

The seventh batch students of the 35-year-old theatre group’s acting school would enact this play. The play will be directed by theatre personality Alok Agnibesh while the script has been adapted into Oriya by D.N. Sethi.

The play will be presented in a contemporary style and the stage crafting and lights have been given special attention, said the general secretary of the troupe, Dhira Mallick.

Tourism and culture minister, Prafulla Samal would attend the show as the chief guest. Actor-turned-film director Hara Pattnaik and actor Pradyumna Lenka would also be present on the occasion.

Other theatre groups in the capital such as Uttar Purush and the students of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya here are also planning to come up with their own theatre festivals. These drama festivals will be held in July.
