Nabarangpur: Tension ran high at the district headquarters hospital here after the family of a deceased patient, with a few local residents, staged a protest against alleged medical negligence on Monday.
The family members of the deceased, Chikili village resident Subash Kochin, alleged that he died as the hospital authorities did not provide medical attention. They also demanded appropriate action against the erring hospital staff members.
"We had admitted Subash on Sunday night after he complained of diarrhoea and vomiting. Though his condition worsened during the night, no hospital staff member attended him despite our requests," alleged Mohan Kochin, a relative of the deceased.
"He succumbed early on Monday. If hospital authorities attended him, then we believe he could have been saved," he added.
The agitation affected medical activities as the family members kept the body for several hours at one of the entrances to the hospital and demanded immediate action against the medical staff members concerned.
However, normality was restored after the hospital authorities assured them of necessary action.
"A probe will be conducted into the complaint and necessary action will be taken against anyone found guilty of dereliction of duty," said chief district medical officer Ramesh Chandra Panda.
