
Bhubaneswar: Tennis players from across the state are set to battle it out at the Odisha Tennis Premier League (OTPL) that will commence from November 19 here.
The tournament will be hosted by Neelachal Tennis Academy, a New Delhi-based academy affiliated to Professional Tennis Registry, USA, with support from the state government.
The five-day tournament will be held at Kalinga Stadium Tennis Complex, Bhubaneswar, where top ranked players of Odisha will take part.
Each team will consist of four players categorised as A, B, C and D.
The OTPL will be held at the Kalinga Stadium Tennis Complex in Bhubaneswar from November 19 to November 23.
Tournament director Dilip Mohanty said: "The premier league aims to better the tennis scenario in the state and develop upcoming talents in Odisha."
The trophy for the tournament was unveiled in the presence of the participating players, their mentors and other dignitaries.
As many as 32 players from the state will take part in the Tennis Premier League 2017 in eight teams - Angul Acers, Bhadrak Victors, Cuttack Conquerors, Khordha Warriors, Kendrapada Contenders, Puri Wavers, Sambalpur Shooters and Sundargarh Veerans.
The players will get a fixed amount of money for playing in the OTPL according to their category.
Earlier, chief minister Naveen Patnaik and Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan had released the logo and the T-shirt for the tournament in Odisha and New Delhi respectively.
"The tournament will be an exciting opportunity for players," said Surjiban Sahu, a tennis player from the state.
"It can be a crowd-puller for both for the older and younger generations, who would get a chance to watch their favourites battle it out under one roof," said Sahu.
