Bhubaneswar, Nov. 17: Two girls studying in a private school in the capital, who went missing yesterday after their classes, were traced in Puri this morning with two boys.
Their parents left for Puri as soon as they got information about the girls to bring them back.
“The girls — aged around 14 and studying in Class IX in a school in Chandrasekharpur — had gone to Puri with their boyfriends without informing their parents. When they didn’t return till 9.30pm yesterday, their parents lodged a case of kidnapping, said a case with the police. However, inspector in-charge of Chandrsekharpur police station, R.N. Satpathy said the parents had lodged only a missing persons complaint. A senior police official said police control room (PCR) vehicles patrolling the Puri beach spotted the girls in their uniforms this morning and informed their parents in Bhubaneswar.
Sources said the girls left with their friends in a Scorpio from near their school after their classes were over yesterday. Both the girls belonged to well-to-do families residing at BDA Colony and Niladri Vihar area in Chandrasekharpur. While the father of one of the girls is an army man, the father of the other girl is a businessman. Their mothers also work. Police said one of the boys with whom the girls have gone missing was a student of the same school and the other one was an engineer in his 20s who worked at a reputed IT company in Infocity area.
Chandrasekharpur police said they had received complaints from their parents about the girls missing from near their school. The school authorities said as the incident took place outside their school campus, they were unaware of the incident.
Police said the girls were good in their studies. However, in a recent exam one of the girls fared badly. Following this, she and her friend planned to run away with their boyfriends.
“The family members of the two girls informed us this morning that they are going to Puri to fetch their daughters. After they bring the girls to the city, they will inform us,” said Satpathy.
