Sambalpur, July 1: As the entrance examination for various post-graduate departments at Sambalpur University is already complete, university authorities have now started working on the process for conducting admissions.

However, Sambalpur University Institute of Information Technology (SUIIT), an autonomous constituent under the university, which offers eight self-financing courses, is yet to conduct entrance examination for five courses.

“We have decided to conduct the admission process from July 21. However, we might extend the date for the convenience of the students,' said post-graduate council chairman, B.K. Tripathy.

This year, the university has introduced a centralised system to generate the merit list. Hence, it will take three to four days more to release the merit list of various departments. 'Once the list is released, we will start sending an intimation to the selected students.

“They will be provided with the information about their admission fees in the intimation letter. The selected students will be required to produce the required certificates at the time of admission,' said Tripathy.

Students who have applied for hostel seats will be informed about the name of the hostel in the intimation letter, he added. Students will have to deposit a bank draft at the P.G. council office. The ST/SC candidates will be exempted from paying tuition fees. Moreover, the girl students of general category whose parents do not pay any income tax will also get concession. The students will have to pay the admission fees in the form of a bank draft. However, the students will have to pay additional fees for the infrastructural development and seminars. These fees will be deposited in their respective departments. SUIIT offers eight courses.

“We consider Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) scores for admission in three courses offered by SUIIT. For admission in B. Tech in electronics and communication, computer science and masters in computer application (MCA), a student will be required to produce a JEE scorecard.

“We have already started the process of admission in these three courses. Intimation letters have already been issued to selected students of these three courses. They have been asked to book their seats by July 7 and the admission in these programmes will begin by July 20,” said Surya Naik, coordinator for M. Sc in electronic science in SUIIT.

“However, the entrance examination for the remaining five courses offered by SUIIT will start on July 4 and will conclude on July 8. Moreover, students who do not get a seat in physics will be allowed to alter his course and seek admission for M.Sc in Electronics Science. The classes of various courses will start in the first week of August,” said Naik.

“If I do not get a seat in physics, I will be allowed to seek admission in electronic science. This is of course a good decision made by university authorities,” Souvanik Hui, an applicant for post-graduate physics course.
