Balasore, May 21: Bhadrak police have arrested a 40-year-old teacher on charge of raping a mentally retarded minor girl.

The accused, Harekrushna Jena, was sent to jail custody after rejection of his bail petition. The accused, a teacher at Mudhipada Primary School under Bhandaripokrari block, had committed the offence on Friday.

He could manage to take the 16-year-old victim on his bike when she was out and assaulted her sexually. After the incident, he left her in the house of a tractor driver, Dushasan Jena, at Malanpur village. As the teacher never returned, Jena made a search for the girl’s house.

The victim was residing in her maternal uncle’s house at Dhamanagar. After returning there, she narrated the incident to her relatives. On Monday, she lodged a police complaint.

Dhamnagar police said a case had been registered under under sections of the IPC.

Inspector in-charge of Dhamnagar police station Bulu Munda said: “We nabbed the accused from his house at Agarpada and produced him before court today. Medical examinations of both the victim and accused have been carried out.”
