Cuttack, Aug. 10: The suspicion over the biological parents of Atmaja, the four-and-a-half-month-old girl child who was abandoned by her parents on the allegation that she was not born to them, was proved to be false following the DNA test ordered by Orissa High Court.

Atmaja had been kept at the special neo-natal care unit of the hospital after her biological parents refused to accept her alleging that their male child delivered at SCB Medical College and Hospital was swapped by another couple with the baby girl.

“Rashmita Mallick cannot be excluded as the biological mother of the female child and can be excluded as the biological mother of the male child,” said the DNA report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Hyderabad, submitted to the high court today.

Following this, the division bench of Chief Justice V. Gopal Gowda and Justice S.K. Mishra directed Sushanta Mallick, the husband of Rashmita (the petitioner), to accept the girl child on Saturday.

The DNA report has also confirmed that Nirupama Mallick is the biological mother of the male child.

On April 24, the high court ordered for the DNA test to ascertain the biological parents of Atmaja after Rashmita had filed a petition alleging that her male child was substituted by a girl.

She had refused to take the custody of Atmaja.

Rashmita and Sushanta of Nischintkohili had alleged that their male child was swapped with a girl child at gynaecology department of SCB Medical College and Hospital on March 30.
