
Hindi language experts speak
A three-day workshop for Hindi language teachers was conducted at DAV Public School, Kalinga Nagar. As many as 60 teachers from different schools of the DAV group of organisations took part in the intensive workshop. Experts from the field discussed issues like the necessity for personality development of students and problems faced by teachers in teaching vernacular grammar to an increasingly bilingual set of students. Experts on the language were invited to speak on various topics surrounding the language.
Summer camp
In an attempt to beat the scorching heat and brush aside the monotony of regular academic rigours, Mother’s Public School, Bhubaneswar, organised a summer camp from May 1 to 15. The camp was inaugurated by athelete Anuradha Biswal, who motivated students and interacted with them on various issues. Around 100 students from different schools in Bhubaneswar took part in the camp, which featured healthy and exciting activities such as yoga, aerobics, football, basketball, cricket, chess, swimming, kho-kho, skating, modern dance, music, parasailing, art and craft, film show, adventures activities and field trips. The students received training from experts in the respective activities.

Valedictory event
VS Vidyalaya, Koraput, organised the valedictory function of its summer camp on campus recently. An art and craft exhibition was held during the camp where artworks made by the children were displayed. Experts addressed the campers and emphasised on the benefits of summer camps as the best way to utilise spare time in developing the talents and hidden skills of the children. Vice-principal P.K. Mishra congratulated the participants for making proper use of their spare time.
Drivers’ event
The DAV Regional Directorate, Odisha Zone I, organised a daylong skill development programme for drivers and cleaners of the DAV Schools at the DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, on May 14. The event was organised in association with Ashok Leyland Limited. Regional transport officer Sanjaya Kumar Behera inaugurated the programme that witnessed participation of 100 drivers and helpers. Experts emphasised on the etiquette of the staff apart from skill development for the greater interest of students. They were taught road safety, traffic norms, driving etiquette, technology and vehicle mechanics.
Green city
The Berhampur Children’s Federation, in association with the Berhampur Municipal Corporation, held a campaign to make the town clean. New municipal corporation commissioner Nikhil Pavan Kalyan inaugurated the campaign at Khallikote University. The event is aimed at creating awareness among residents to make the city clean, hygienic, green and beautiful through a holistic approach. Child leader Sruti Kumari said children have started contributing their time, effort and talent by painting on the wall to make a beautiful city. More than 300 children are taking part in the event.
Teachers’ workshop
Venkateswar English Medium School, Bhubaneswar, organised a two-day workshop on capacity building programme and classroom management for teachers on May 12 and 13. The workshop was conducted by St Ann’s High School, Vishakhapatnam, principal Gnana Soundari and Visakha Valley School, Vishakhapatnam, vice-principal Kalpana Kumari. The teachers were actively engaged in planning different fun activities in order to create an environment conducive for for learning. The workshop laid emphasis on different components of content management, conduct management and covenant management. They also addressed the problems of large classes and suggested ways to deal with misbehaviour in classrooms.
