Sambalpur, Feb. 21: A subway will be constructed under the railway tracks to connect Jagannath Colony with Sakhipara, which will directly connect the two localities and cut down travel time.

The public works department (PWD) has already prepared the blueprint of the subway.

The state government will provide funds for the project, while the East Coast Railway will execute the subway work.

The estimated budget for the project is around Rs 4.75 crore. The proposed subway will be 3.15-metre high and 7.5-metre long.

"The design of the proposed subway has already been submitted to the Sambalpur railway division. They will execute the work," said PWD executive engineer H. Majhi.

Apart from connecting the two localities, the subway will also provide an alternative road to the main town, Brooks Hill, VSS Marg and Sambalpur railway station from Ainthapali and Budharaja areas of the city.

The subway will also help in reducing traffic congestion on Ainthapali Chhak-Laxmi Talkies Chhak Road, which is one of the busiest and most congested roads in the city.
