Bhubaneswar, March 6: Tension prevailed at Capital Hospital following the death of an engineering student in a road mishap near Pokhariput within the Airfield police limits this evening.
Relatives of the deceased, Ankur Mohanty, 23, broke glass panes and chairs at the hospital, alleging medical negligence by the hospital authorities.
The mishap took place while Mohanty was going on his motorcycle and the vehicle lost its balance and hit the boundary wall. Later, he was rushed to Capital Hospital with multiple injuries.
"We rushed him to hospital, but the authorities did not attend him properly. His life would have been saved had the doctors attended to him properly," alleged one of his friends.
Mohanty was in his fourth year in a city-based private engineering college.
However, the hospital authorities denied the allegations of medical negligence. "By the time he reached the hospital, he had already died," said a doctor of the hospital.
Following the incident, one platoon of police has been deployed on the hospital premises. "We are keeping a close watch on the situation, and our personnel have been deployed at the hospital to prevent any further untoward incidents," said deputy commissioner of police Satyabrata Bhoi.
Today, 17 persons died in road mishaps across the state. The accidents also left as many as 26 persons injured.
