The five-day Sourik Yuva Mahotsav recently concluded at Kaliapani under Sukinda block in Jajpur district. Tribal youths, local residents, government officials, industry and mines people from various parts of Sukinda took part in the event. The festival began from hilltop Nagada followed by a mini-marathon. The tribal arts and craft, cultural events and mini-markets attracted lot of people to the festival. Workshops and events were organised to create awareness and uplift the tribal community.
Annual congress
S.C. Dash, professor emeritus, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences, was recently invited to the annual congress of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) at New Orleans in USA and American Nephrologists of Indian Origin (ANIO) Society. Dash attended ASN as a special delegate and took part in the educational ambassadors' meet, where global reduction of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in low economy group of countries was discussed. A resolution was also passed that international educational ambassadors should take keen interest to guide physicians of various countries on proper approach, rational investigations and appropriate treatment.
Road safety
About 60 young boys and girls, all medical students from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar performed on various dance numbers, in the open space in front of a commercial complex in Bhubaneswar. The students were performing a flash mob on road safety theme with support from the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation and the Bhubaneswar Urban Knowledge Centre of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority. The activity was aimed at creating awareness and sensitising citizens, especially youngsters, on various road safety issues, coinciding with the ongoing Road Safety Week celebration from January 11 to 17. Announcements were made on road safety, especially safety of pedestrians.
Traffic volunteers
The training of 100 students under the traffic student volunteer scheme at Berhampur was completed. From January 17, they were engaged formally at various traffic junctions. Among the volunteers, 59 are boys and 41 are girls. Police have provided them with T-shirts and caps.
Workshop
The World Trade Centre in Bhubaneswar organised a half-day workshop on social entrepreneurship to train young minds of the state in creating socially-minded business leaders. Students from various colleges and universities across the state took part in the event. Social activist Jagadananda spoke about several social entrepreneurs who took up the courage and risk to start something that has made a great social contribution and at the same time added value to the local and national economy. Questions related to definitions and concept of social entrepreneurship and how it is different from entrepreneurship were raised.
Students’ summit
A summit for the young and budding entrepreneurs and students of state was held on Institute of Technical Education and Research campus at Siksha 'O' Anusandhan University in Bhubaneswar. Sanjeev Chopra, principal secretary of state industry department inaugurated the three-day summit. Nigam Jyoti Sahu, the final-year student of the varsity and an aspiring entrepreneur, said that the summit would be helpful for youngsters to start something on their own.
Youth day
The Institute of Media Studies organised a seminar on “Role of Youths in Contemporary Society” on the occasion of birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and celebrated the National Youth Day on its premises. Speaking on the occasion, former principal and NSS training coordinator of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Jantrana Parikshita, urged the students to live up to their own highest idea and strive for it to make it possible.
