Bhubaneswar, March 13: The state government has launched an innovative programme for the monthly review of schools. Based on various factors, this review will measure how the schools are performing.
Titled Samiksha, this exercise has been introduced by the school and mass education department to rate schools and raise their standards. With this new programme, schools in all 30 districts will be rated every month and categorised on the basis of certain indicators.
Each school is going to be rated on five parameters comprising of 80 indicators such as school environment, management, co curricular activities, community links, health check up and exhibitions in schools.
“This is a unique move to ensure that individual schools maintain their quality of education and excel. Similarly it will also make the district administrations more accountable. They will put in more efforts towards improvement of schools,” a senior official in the department said.
About 45,000 schools were monitored for the performance -tracking programme in February. Based on their performance, the schools were divided into four zones.
“The red zone signifies scores ranging between one per cent to 25 per cent and is considered the lowest while green is the highest rated zone with those coming between 76 per cent and 100 per cent, the official added.
Schools in Dhenkanal, Cuttack and Balasore districts have performed well in various parameters while those in Jharsuguda, Nabrangpur, Malkangiri and Kalahandi have scored below 50 per cent. However, no school were found in the green zone.
“The ranks will not remain same. They keep on changing as per the fluctuations in performance,” said the official.Similarly, monitoring mechanisms have been put in place.
“Monitoring structures have been formed at various zones and teams have been constituted to make the procedure effective,” the official said. Committees have already been formed in about 5,000 schools with classes from I to VIII.
