Tribute to pioneers
SAI International School celebrated Utkal Divas on its campus on April 3. Students and teachers paid tributes to the leaders of Odisha — Madhusudan Das, Gopabandhu Das, Maharaja Krusha Chandra Gajapati, Fakir Mohan Senapati, and Gouri Shankar Ray. Students dressed up as the eminent personalities, while the choir group of the school sung songs extolling the state. Eminent writer Bibhuti Patnaik shared with the students the history of Odisha province and gave an insight into the struggle that led to its formation.
Time to welcome
St Xavier High School organised a grand welcome of all the students for the 2014-15 academic session at the Barabati Stadium. Co-operation of parents and dedication of teachers will give a great session ahead, said Subhashree Mohanty, principal of St Xavier High School, Cuttack.

Special celebration
Differently-abled children had a great time at a special event organised by the Dhamra port as part of the Utkal Divas celebrations. About 200 differently-abled children from two residential schools — Binapani Hellen Kellar Special School for Blind, Deaf and Dumb and the Mahaveer School for Deaf and Dumb in Bhadrak — attended the programme.
Titled Taare Zameen Par, the special attraction of the event was an en masse birthday celebration organised by the port. Chief operating officer of DPCL Subrat Kumar Tripathy presented prizes to 12 differently-abled children, who had excelled in the fields of art, sports and dance. The students also presented various cultural performances.
Little grads
KIDZZ Bloomingdale, Sailashree Vihar, celebrated its first academic achievement of the kids with a colourful cultural show to celebrate the graduation of tiny tots from playschool to kindergarten. Kids in the age group of two to four years enthralled the audience with spiritual, patriotic and modern dance items. Twenty-seven kids dressed in red robe and cap graduated to kindergarten. School principal Sabita Patnaik presented guests with flower saplings as a symbol of “Love Green, Love Life”. Writer and social activist Rashmi Rath and councillor Swarnaprava Ray graced the occasion.
Fellowships
As many as six students of DAV Public School (Unit-VIII) have been selected to get fellowship under the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana, an ongoing national fellowship programme in basic sciences conducted every years in two rounds by the department of science and technology. The students include Spandan Kumar Sahoo, Manish Kumar Bera, Abhishek Panda, Pritish Priyadarshi Nayak, Ritwik Ray and Rohan Acharya. The chairman of school managing committee Madan Mohan Panda, principal Bhagyabati Nayak and coordinator Mamata Banerjee congratulated the students on their achievement.
