Bhubaneswar: The women and child development department, along with its health and family welfare counterpart, will provide shelter and videoconferencing facilities to the victims of gender violence, who approach the one-stop centre - Sakhi.
Earlier, it used to provide emergency response and rescue services, medical aid, assistance in lodging complaints with police, psycho-social support and legal counselling.
In case of long-term shelter requirement, the government will make arrangement at short-stay home operated by voluntary organisations. Through videoconferencing, the centre will facilitate speedy and hassle-free police and court proceedings.
The department has revised the earlier guidelines meant to operate the centre keeping in view the additional services. "We will hire an agency to provide the services," said a women and child development official .
The government will also set up five more such centres at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, district headquarters hospitals in Sambalpur and Koraput and the Rourkela Government Hospital.
"We have proposed to set up 10 more such centres, of which five got the final nod," said a health official.
