Serving aces The All-India Tennis Association-Rourkela Tennis Association (RTA) U-14 Championship Series Tennis Tournament is on in Rourkela with players from Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, and Delhi taking part in the series. The top seed for the series is Avilash Mishra and Nishant Kumar is the second seed. Meanwhile, another tennis tournament is also on in the city – the RTA and Rourkela Steel Plant Odisha Open Veteran 40+ and 50+ Doubles.

Kabaddi capers The Kalinga Kabaddi Academy organised the second edition of the Invitational Grade A National Kabaddi Championship last week at Patia in Bhubaneswar. In the men’s category, Sports Authority of India, Gujarat defeated North East Railways, Gorakhpur 38-30 to win the tournament while the Northern Railways women’s team emerged champions defeating Varanasi 19-12 in the finals.

Double gold Odia athletes gave a brilliant performance at the 33rd National Masters Athletics held in Bangalore. Sushma Rani Nanda of Odisha clinched a double gold by leading the 100m and 1500m race.

Punch lines A total of 161 boxers, including 50 girls from 12 districts — Ganjam, Sundergarh, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Khurda, Gajapati, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Sambalpur, Balangir, Puri and Mayurbhanj — are participating in the two-day All-Odisha State Boxing Championship for senior, junior and sub-junior groups being held at Berhampur Stadium from Monday. Organised by the Ganjam Unit of the Odisha Amateur Boxing Association and the Ganjam District Athletic Association, the championship bouts are being conducted by 16 referees from the state and two neutral referees deputed by Indian Boxing Federation. The participants will punch in 10 categories of senior group, nine in junior and 19 in sub-junior at the event being held for the third time in Berhampur.

All on board The Secretariat Recreation Club is going to conduct the 6th All-Odisha Open Chess Tournament on its premises from March 8 to 11. Prize money of approximately Rs 35,000 will be awarded to the players occupying the top 15 positions in the 10-round tournament.
