The Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences has initiated a new research project titled “Transforming India’s Green Revolution by Research and Empowerment for Sustainable Food Supplies”. Awarded by the Cambridge University, UK, the project is the first of its kind, focusing on new technological innovations in the area of sustainable agriculture and nutrition security, going beyond the seed-fertiliser-water package of the green revolution. It aims to trigger a second green revolution, which will not only increase productivity but conserves water, soil quality and plant biodiversity. This apart, the Trident Academy of Technology, Bhuban-eswar, in association with the Indian Association of Energy Management Professionals and Association of Green Industries and Services recently organised a two-day national workshop-cum-exhibition on “Emerging Green Career and Business Opportunities”. Expert P. Saxena talked about the need of positive attitude towards clean and green environment and green energy. It was announced at the workshop that four lakh jobs have been created in green energy sector and four million more jobs are expected to be created in next one decade.
Tree plantation
More than 100 trees were recently planted at Ukal University by the students of the varsity. Actor Akash Das Nayak attended the event and encouraged the students to take up more such initiatives. The trees were planted at various locations across the campus.
Business conclave
The Xavier School of Rural Management in collaboration with the Rural Manager’s Association of the Xavier University, Bhubaneswar, organised its fifth annual business conclave Abhivyakti on “Rural Business: Impact in Digital Era” in Bhubaneswar on August 19. Many delegates spoke on the occasion, Sutra Consulting Private Limited director Sasanka Sekhar Singh stressed on the importance on thinking and acting from a manager’s perspective, rather than from the marketing point of view. DoVo Health cofounder Balaya Moharana spoke on the necessity to create a technology platform to bring farmers, financiers, and suppliers together in one marketplace. A question-and-answer round was also held in which students of rural management cleared their doubts about the intricacies of rural business.
Inter-college event
The International Management Institute, Bhubaneswar, recently organised its 8th inter-college annual business contest SPARX’X8 on its campus. A wide range of events such as Ad-Mad, Deconstruct to Reconstruct, Quest the ladder, Carpe Diem, Launch and Accelerate and Intelligent Investor were organised. About 300 students from various B-schools across India took part in the event.
Future voters
Odisha Election Watch launched a campaign titled “Hum Badlenge Apna Bharat” in collaboration with the Association for Democratic Reforms, the People’s Cultural Centre, the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha. The purpose of the campaign is to increase youth involvement in strengthening democracy and to make future voters an influencer for the adult members of their family and encourage them to be a responsible and proactive citizen when they turn 18. The campaign will take place in 100 Plus-Two educational institutions on pilot basis. A training of trainers and facilitators took place in Bhubaneswar, in which 50 NSS programme officers and election watch facilitators took part.
Training on fishing
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research - Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIFA) and the state fisheries department recently conducted a four-day training programme on fibre-reinforced plastic carp hatchery in Ganjam district. About 120 tribal beneficiaries, including 84 women, took part in the programme. They were trained on hatchery operation for brood fish selection, fish seed production and spawn collection.
