Bhubaneswar, July 8: Home fans burst into cheer after the Indian women's 4X100m relay team featuring Odia sprinters Dutee Chand and Srabani Nanda won bronze in the Asian Athletics Championship at Kalinga Stadium this evening. Dutee bagged the bronze in the women's 100m yesterday.

The relay race papered over the disappointment of Odia athlete Jauna Murmu's failure in the 400m hurdles. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated the relay team and both the Odia athletes after their event.

The entire stadium cheered for Murmu to inspire her, egged on by Dutee's success yesterday. However, Murmu disappointed with her performance and could only finish in sixth position. Another Odia sprinter, and national record holder Amiya Mallick, who was disqualified from the men's 100m yesterday, however, made it in to the semi-finals of the men's 200m, keeping alive the hopes of home fans.

"We were hopeful of a medal from Murmu after Dutee's performance yesterday. She tried her best, but these things happen. However, the relay team's win was special as two Odia athletes were part of the team. India has been performing well and we will encourage our athletes," said Apurba Sahu, a spectator.

On the other hand, Dutee's co-ordinator Payoshni Mitra today said the sprinter would respond to any submission filed by the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to revive the Hyperandrogenism Regulations. "Dutee does not understand why the IAAF believes that she should undergo a medical review. She simply wishes to run," said Mitra.

Earlier, the IAAF had decided to reopen the case between Dutee and the Athletics Federation of India and the IAAF in the court of arbitration regarding its regulations on hyperandrogenism. Dutee was banned from competing in national and international events after testing high for levels of androgen.

The IAAF said the findings of a study paper, Hyperandrogenism Regulations, has been published and it would return to the CAS before the two-year deadline, which ends on July 27.
