Cuttack, June 9: The overall performance of students in the undergraduate examinations has deteriorated at Ravenshaw University, which declared the results today.

Despite a steep rise in the enrolment ratio, there has been a sharp fall in performance by the students. The overall pass percentage of students in arts, science, commerce as well as other professional courses have registered a fall of three per cent. Close to 10 per cent of the students did not clear the exams.

However, there was resentment among the students as they were not able to access their results on the website after the results were declared in the evening.

"Due to some technical errors in the National Informatics Centre (NIC) server, there were problems in downloading and assessing the results by the students today. They will be able to know their results from tomorrow," said the acting vice-chancellor of the varsity, Smarapriya Mishra.

Many students expressed their dissatisfaction over the inordinate delay in the declaration of results.

The students alleged that there is uncertainty whether they will be eligible to apply for admissions in various postgraduate courses at Utkal University as the last date for submission of mark sheets and provisional certificates is June 11.

"The results were published today and the authorities will start distributing mark sheets from June 11," said Kishore Patnaik, a student.

Ravenshaw University officials, on the other hand, claimed that the delay was due to central valuation and automation process.

"We have requested the Utkal officials to extend the time for submission of original documents by the students from Ravenshaw University till June 13," said Mishra.

Mishra said the varsity would set up five special counters to facilitate distribution of original mark sheets and provisional certificates from Saturday. The counters will also remain open on Sunday.

An official source said: "Of the 1,860 students who appeared in the exams 1,693 cleared it. The overall pass percentage of students stood at around 94 percent last year.

Ravenshaw officials claimed there has been a significant rise in the enrolment of students. As many as 1,860 students took admissions at the varsity this year against 1,511 in 2011.

Last year, 1,765 students had taken admission in various undergraduate courses at the varsity.

The girl students have invariably outperformed the boys. Adyasa Priyadarshini, who completed her Plus Three in chemistry, was declared the best graduate. She has scored 1,913 out of a total 2,200 marks.
