Cuttack: Admission season to undergraduate courses has kicked off at Ravenshaw University with the varsity making online application forms available for various courses.

Candidates will have to apply by paying Rs 300 by June 24 with the entire process set to be completed by mid-August.

At present, the university offers 30 undergraduate honours programmes with 1,192 seats - 354 in science, 566 in arts and 272 in commerce.

Unlike in the past, candidates are not given the option of mentioning the honours subject of their choice in order of preference at the time of application.

Admission committee co-ordinator Dharmabrata Mohapatra said: "For the first time, we will adopt the centralised counselling system for admissions into undergraduate courses."

"Candidates will be called for counselling according to a centralised selection list prepared on the basis of merit. They will be given the options of honours subjects available to them at the time," Mohapatra said.

"The centralised system will check blocking of multiple seats on a single application that delays the admission process."

Separate selection lists will be prepared for science, arts and commerce according to the marks obtained in the Plus Two exam and counselling will take place accordingly.

The university has also announced that admissions to postgraduate courses will start from June 22.

It had conducted entrance examination to postgraduate courses from May 22 to 28.

The varsity has declared the first selection list on the basis of performance in the entrance test.

The entire admission process has been decentralised this year with individual departments empowered to conduct its own admission, sources said.

The university offers 1,294 seats for postgraduate courses in 30 subjects in nine schools. This year, it received around 15,800 applications for postgraduate courses.

Ravenshaw has introduced 16 self-financing postgraduate seats each in analytical chemistry and biochemistry with an annual fee of Rs 40,000 each, 32 seats in yoga with annual fee of Rs 30,000 and clinical biochemistry and medical biotechnology with a fee of Rs 50,000.
