Bhubaneswar: The commissioner of endowments on Wednesday sought a report from the Lingaraj temple administration and police in connection with the controversy, in which actress Raveena Tandon allegedly recorded a video of herself on the mobile phone on the shrine premises on Sunday.
On the other hand, the actress pleaded ignorance about the mobile ban in the 11th century shrine.
"I have sought a report from the temple management and the police as well on how devotees managed to take mobile phones to the shrine and film the actress in presence of servitors and the cops as cell phone is prohibited in the shrine. I have sought the report within two days," said commissioner of endowments Biraja Prasad Dutta.
On Tuesday, the temple management lodged a formal complaint with Lingaraj police demanding action against Tandon. The management had swung into action after the video clip of the actress had gone viral on social media.
The temple, an ASI-protected monument, has been declared as a no-camera zone. Temple officials said barring police and servitors, no one is allowed to take mobile phones and cameras inside the temple. However, the police did not register a case saying that the complaint did not reveal any cognisable offence.
The actress on Wednesday took to Twitter to keep her version on the issue. "Temple authorities were distraught as everyone around me (organisers/security/pandits/locals) using cell phones, clicking videos, taking selfies, I was not aware of phone ban. Hence the issue," she tweeted. The actresses, along with others, allegedly shot a video for advertisement purpose to promote a local cosmetic product.
On the other hand, local residents alleged inaction of the temple management for similar incidents in the recent past.
"This is not the first incident in which cell phones were taken to the temple. Thousands of devotees were spotted taking photographs in the shrine during Shivratri in February," a resident said.
