
Bhubaneswar: The depression over southeast and adjoining central Bay of Bengal moved further north and northwest-ward and intensified into a deep depression causing rainfall in the state. Weathermen have forecast that the deep depression will weaken over the next 12 hours.
According to a latest bulletin issued by the regional meteorological centre, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in Khurda, Cuttack, Puri, Kendrapara, Ganjam. Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput districts in the next 48 hours.
Besides, thundershower is likely to occur at most places in coastal and interior Odisha during the period.
Puri received a rainfall of 21mm by Friday evening, Paradip also received a rainfall of 12mm during the same period. Bhubaneswar received a rainfall of 5.7mm followed by Cuttack, which received 4mm rainfall by Friday evening.
Weathermen have forecast that the sea condition would be rough to very rough along and off Odisha coast from Friday evening to Sunday morning. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea till December 10 evening.
Residents of Bhubaneswar spent most of the day indoors due to the rain. "We are finding it difficult to go to outside due to the rain. The city roads have become waterlogged and it will be difficult time for us till Sunday," said a resident of Bhubaneswar.
The arrival of rain triggered by the deep depression has put farmers in a tizzy as they are already reeling from crop loss due to unseasonal rain last month.
