Bhubaneswar, May 25: Members of Justice M.B. Shah Commission team touring Odisha today inspected three mines in Joda of Keonjhar district.
Sources said that forest officer Biswajeet Mishra and geologist Janardan Prasad went around the mines trying to ascertain whether the physical verification of lease boundaries had been done in tune with the instructions issued by the commission.
Five teams of Odisha government have been assigned the task of physical verification which is being undertaken after some mine owners raised doubts about the accuracy of the differential geographical positioning system used for demarcation of boundaries.
The primary task of the members of the commission is to see to it that the teams engaged in physical verification of boundaries stick to the norms set by the panel. They will also see to it that any mining having taken place outside the lease areas and in violation of the maps prepared by the Indian Bureau of Mines is taken note of by the teams.
The verification, which was to be carried out in 42 mines, has already been completed in around 20 of them. Sources said that the team appeared to be satisfied with the work done in the mines they visited today.
The commission, which has earlier visited Odishafour times, is likely to file its report next month. In the past it has detected irregularities including mining outside lease areas and mining in forested areas without requisite clearances.
