Kendrapara, Oct. 28: Police today busted a job racket and arrested two in this connection.
The arrested, Prasant Behera from Choti village and Baburam Sethy from Madanpur village, had deceived nearly 70 youths by promising them jobs in Mauritius and Kuwait.
The cops swung into action after a group of local youths lodged a complaint with them.
The police said that both Prasant and Baburam had confessed to their crime.
More than a dozen of forged employment visas, visa applications, forged documents and application forms by placement agencies were recovered from them, said inspector of Nikirai police station Pramod Kumar Lenka.
"After thorough verification, the visas were found to be forged," he said.
They were booked under IPC Sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 420 (cheating), 34 (criminal act done by several persons of common intention) and forwarded to court today. Later, they were sent to jail after a local court dismissed their bail application, Lenka said.
Investigation revealed that the duo established a network across the district by promising overseas jobs.
The duo promised the job seekers to provide visas in a fortnight. They managed to collect around Rs 3 lakh through their racket.
"They were impressive. We gladly gave them the money. We couldn't believe that they would deceive us," said one of the complainants, Pradumnya Das.
