Cuttack: Orissa High Court has sought a reply from the East Coast Railway (ECoR) on a PIL on its alleged inaction in constructing the cement concrete flooring and overhead shed or roof for a parking stand for two-wheelers at the Cuttack railway station.

The petition has sought the court's direction to the ECoR to provide the concrete flooring and shed for the stand for motorcycles, scooters and bicycles at the station. Thousands of daily passengers, who use the stand No. 3 sprawling over around 975 square metre area, are eagerly looking forward to its concrete flooring and shed.

Sudhansu Sekhar Parida, 34, a resident of Sikharpur area in the city, filed the PIL claiming to be a daily passenger in train who uses the stand No. 3 for parking his two-wheeler.

Parida pointed out that the ECoR earned nearly Rs 5 lakh from licence fee annually from the stand No. 3, but has allegedly turned a deaf ear to repeated requests for the concrete flooring and shed over it and address the difficulties of daily passengers who pay parking fee for their vehicles.

The petition came up last week before the high court went on summer vacation from Monday.

"After a preliminary hearing, the division bench of Chief Justice Vineet Saran and Justice B.R. Sarangi posted the matter for hearing after summer vacation along with the reply of the East Coast Railway," petitioner counsel Khirod Rout said.

"The court, accordingly, issued notices to the general manager, divisional engineer (east) of East Coast Railway," Rout said. "Notices were also issued to the divisional railway manager (Khurda), divisional commercial manager (Khurda) and stationmaster (Cuttack railway station)."
