Balasore, Dec. 3: A sprawling parking space in an industrial area here was inaugurated to accommodate heavy vehicles.

The district administration hopes to attract more industries with the logistic upgrade.

Spread over seven acres, the Rs100crore parking facility can accommodate 125 trucks and lorries. It also has a railway siding, weigh bridge, drivers’ dormitory and restaurant facilities.

Besides, washing and minor repair facilities for trucks and tankers are also available. “Balasore found a place on the industrial map of India during the 80s, with several large, medium and small industries setting up their units here. With its proximity to Calcutta, major ports, good road connectivity and excellent industrial climate, the district holds a key position in the state,” said president of North Orissa chamber of commerce and industry Devasish Mahanty.

“The warehouse is already functioning and transport parking area is ready, the machine room would be ready by March next year. This will help Balasore attract more industries,” he said.

Nocci convenor Amit Behera said: “This kind of facility has been made available for the first time in north Odisha.”

The parking complex was inaugurated by deputy inspector-general (eastern range) Aseet Panigrahi. The infrastructure under Integrated Logistics Hub at Somnathpur is built as a joint venture of North Orissa Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation in public-private-partnership mode.

President of Truck Owners’ Association Ajay Biswal said: “This facility be a boon for the transporters as well as drivers.”
