Balasore, Oct. 14: Irked by frequent power cuts, senior citizens have threatened to take to the streets and move court.

“The state government has been claiming that uninterrupted power is supplied to consumers. But the private power distribution company has been resorting to power cuts arbitrarily. We are yet to know why there is load shedding,” said Brajanath Rath, a member of the Senior Citizen Forum.

“Officials of the state energy department and the distribution company are not doing anything about the issue. The consumers of Balasore are bearing the brunt of power cuts. We want the reason behind power cuts to be issued in writing,” he added.

Balasore has been experiencing power cuts for one hour in the daytime and in the evening for two months now. Besides the scheduled power cuts for two hours, undeclared power disruptions too are common. “Summer is over and we believe there is no crisis in hydel power or thermal power generation,” said Maheswar Bag, the president of the forum.
