Bhubaneswar: A local court here rejected the bail plea of an assistant engineer of the Life Insurance Corporation of India Limited, Ranjan Kumar Das, on Wednesday. Das, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday for allegedly taking Rs 75,000 as bribe from a contractor to provide him credential certificate for his work. The additional sessions court on Wednesday rejected his bail plea and sent him to judicial custody till June 8, informed public prosecutor K.P. Mishra. Bhubaneswar: The state government on Wednesday dismissed two schoolteachers and suspended another two for irregularities. The suspension order was based on information obtained from student’s helpline, which has been set up by the school and mass education department. Two teachers, Namitalata Panda and Srinibasa Sharma, were dismissed for not attending the school. The other two had hired people in their places, who would be working as proxy teachers, and were working elsewhere. Bhubaneswar: The much-awaited Orissa Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) results will be published at 1pm on Thursday. “The results will be made available on the state joint entrance examination board’s website www.odishajee.com,” said Sitaram Mohapatra, vice-chairman of the JEE committee. This year’s joint entrance examination was held in two phases on May 1 and May 8. Bhubaneswar: Steel City's boy Naveen Chandok has scored 88th rank in the IIT joint entrance examination, the results of which were published on Wednesday. More than 80 students of the state have got their ranks to enter into the premier league of engineering institutes of the country this year. Boys and girls from the capital have also done well in the entrance examination. Bhubaneswar: A severe thunder squall in Angul and nearby areas disrupted road communication on Wednesday, as huge trees were uprooted blocking the Angul-Sambalpur Road near Banrpal. The communication between Angul and the Nalco Township was also disrupted due to the storm. Many vehicles were also damaged. Bhubaneswar: A poor pregnant woman patient from Nayagarh district, who could not get treatment here at the Capital Hospital on May 23, was finally shifted to the Sriram Chandra Bhanja (S.C.B.) Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Medical superintendent of the S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital said: “Our team of medical experts has already checked the health condition of the patient, who belongs to a family of the below poverty line (BPL) category. She is also being given medical services free of cost by the state government.” Health minister Prasanna Acharya has ordered an inquiry into the Capital Hospital episode.
