Bhubaneswar, Nov. 30: The state finance department today ordered attachment of properties belonging to the Hi-Tech Group, which had allegedly swindled crores from investors across the state.
The properties included the corporate office of the group in Bhubaneswar, nearly 146 acres and 53 bank accounts with cash deposits worth Rs 1 crore .
The attachment order came after the economic offences wing (EOW) of the state crime branch sent a proposal to the state finance department. EOW officials said that the market value of the attached properties would be more than Rs 100 crore. The Hi-Tech hospital is built on an area of 42 acres on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
The EOW had registered five cases against the managing director of the group, Tirupati Panigrahi, and two directors of the group, Tirupati Choudhury and Madhusudan Panigrahi, for allegedly cheating investors on the pretext of providing plots under various schemes in Bhubaneswar and outskirts.
The EOW had also arrested the trio in December 2012. They were in jail custody till February 2014.
Later, they were released under the orders of Supreme Court by depositing Rs 63 crore. “With the money deposited by the trio during bail and the attached property, the duped investors will get back their money under the orders of the designated court,” said an EOW official.
