Parts of state to get heavy rainfall
Bhubaneswar: The weather officials on Friday warned of heavy rain in some parts of the state in the next 24 hours. Under the influence of upper air cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast, a low-pressure area has formed over Northwest of the Bay of Bengal and neighbouring areas as a result of which rain and thundershower would occur at most places in the state. Strong and gusty surface wind speed of 40-45kmph will prevail along and off the Odisha coast. Fishermen have been warned not to venture into sea. Berhampur: Mumbai police on Friday arrested one Chandrakant Bharat Goel for cheating people by promising them huge returns for their investments. He is believed to have cheated people to the tune of Rs 25 crore. Goel, who was running Sri RamKrishna Electro Control Limited in Berhampur, has been produced before a local court. BHUBANESWAR: Bike-borne assailants on Friday allegedly looted Rs 20 lakh from two persons in Rourkela. Following the incident, all roads, including NH 23 and state highway No. 10 have been sealed. The goons intercepted the men who were travelling in a car. They snatched the cash at gunpoint and fled the spot. Bhubaneswar: A schoolteacher in Berhampur was suspended on Friday for locking up a student. The Class III child had fallen asleep at class and the teacher unknowingly locked the room on August 10. he student was later rescued by the police three hours later. Berhampur: A local court granted bail to 64 people allegedly involved in the 2008 communal riots after they surrendered before the court on Thursday. G Udayagiri judicial magistrate first class Biswa Prakash Ray granted regular bail based on a high court order. The suspects were asked not to indulge in violence and tamper with evidence. They were also directed to make personal appearances in the court on the given date. BHUBANESWAR: The state women’s commission on Friday held a camp court in Balangir and heard 50 cases of harassment. About 10 cases were sorted out though counselling, chairperson of the camp, Jyoti Panigrahi said. Bhubaneswar: Twenty-two employees of Rourkela Steel Plant have bagged the prestigious Prime Minister's Shram Awards-2011. hey are among 68 employees from the country to be selected to receive the award, which will be given by the Union ministry of labour and employment. Bhubaneswar: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Dhenkanal, on Friday celebrated its 20th anniversary. The institute also organised various events such as newspaper exhibition, essay and debate competition and cultural programmes during the event. Set up in 1993, IIMC, Dhenkanal, has so far produced more than 1,000 media professionals.
