Man’s headless body found in Cuttack

Cuttack: The headless body of a 37-year-old man was found from near Korkara village in Cuttack Sadar police limits on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Basant Patra of Dhanharapara village. Police sources said the severed head was recovered 200m away from the spot from where his body was found in the morning. It is suspected that Basant Patra, who used to run a paan shop near his house at Dhanharapara, has been hacked to death with a sharp weapon.

Kranti Divas

Cuttack: Freedom fighters, activists, students and people from various walks of life on Thursday came together to celebrate Kranti Divas to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Quit India movement. Tributes were paid to the martyrs at the Martyr Memorial pillar near the state museum here and a torch rally was taken out to Astaranga in Puri.

Negligence

BHUBANESWAR: Tension gripped a private nursing home after the death of a person for alleged medical negligence. The family members of a 55-year-old woman ransacked the clinic after she died of an asthama attack. The district health authorities have ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Ganja seized

Sambalpur: One person was arrested and Sambalpur police seized 125kg of ganja from his possession. The person been identified as Seikh Aslam. Police have also seized the four-wheeler in which the ganja was being transported. Cops intercepted the vehicle at Sindurpankh in Sadar police station limits and seized the ganja. The market price of the seized ganja is around Rs. 4 lakh.

Four arrested

BHUBANESWAR: Four youths, including an engineering student, were arrested on Thursday for robbing a trader by posing as police personnel in Koraput. The accused have been identified as Amit Kumar Mandal, a diploma engineering student, Purander Singh Khora, Siba Sankar Khora and Lalu Kuldeep. On the pretext of carrying out a routine check, the four had intercepted the vehicle and decamped with mobiles and cash.

Awareness

BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik stressed a mass awareness campaign on various welfare schemes taken up by the state government. Reviewing various welfare schemes at the district level through video conferencing at the state secretariat here, Naveen had a discussion with the district collectors regarding implementation of various welfare schemes.

Investigation

BHUBANESWAR: The Puri police on Thursday started an investigation into the shoe-throwing incident in the court of the chief judicial magistrate in which an undertrial prisoner Chhabi Das threw his shoe at the judge. However, the shoe did not hit the judge. Superintendent of police Anup Kumar Sahu instructed the reserve inspector to investigate the matter. The lawyers and bar association members in Puri condemned the incident.
