Bhubaneswar: Finance minister Prasanna Acharya submitted his explanation to the state election commission denying allegations about violation of model code of conduct during campaigning for recent urban polls in Bargarh. Acharya had allegedly threatened voters to stop release of funds for developmental work if they did not vote for the ruling BJD. A delegation of Congress legislators led by leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh met governor S.C. Jamir and sought his intervention in the matter. Sambalpur: Puri district administration has started demolishing unsafe buildings on the Grand Road (Badadanda) following a recent high court order. The authorities razed a market complex as part of the drive. Earlier, it had decided to pull down unsafe structures on both sides of road, but traders had sought a stay order from the high court. More dilapidated buildings would be demolished soon.
