Bhubaneswar: The Paradip Port Trust Limited has begun coastal trade operation with Bangladesh from Monday. The port linkage improved the bilateral sea-route trade and commerce activities adding to the annual revenue of the port. Officials said that the Paradip Port Trust has gone ahead with coastal trade with Bangladesh. Shipments of three containerised cargoes have taken place recently. In the coming months, the coastal shipments with the neighbouring country are expected to go up.   

Injured

Dhenkanal: Local residents thrashed the sub-collector and tehsildar of Kamakshyanagar after their vehicle hit a cow near Gengutia while they were on their way to Kamakshyanagar from Dhenkanal. Sources said that the sub-collector Kalpataru Behera and Tehsildar Saroj Kumar Swain were attacked and later admitted to the hospital.

JEE examinee 

Bhubaneswar: A fake examinee, who took the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) at Buxi Jagabandhu English Medium School, was arrested on Sunday. The examinee was identified as Sundar Mohan Singh, a resident of Mayurbhanj district. The cops also nabbed one of his associate Rajesh Bhol from Dumduma. Sundar took the examination on behalf of Babul Chapeyer.

Loot

Bhubaneswar: Unidentified armed miscreants looted Rs 10 lakh from a petrol pump at gunpoint near Jatani in Khordha district late last night. According to sources, two robbers barged into the Sundaray filling station at Kudiary here and threatened its staff at gunpoint and decamped with a box containing around Rs 10 lakh.

Matriculation  

Bhubaneswar: Evaluation of answer sheets of matriculation examination has  concluded today. The evaluation started on March 20. Sources said that the Board of Secondary Education was likely to announce the results during the first week of May. While answer sheet numbers of objective papers have been transferred online to the agency concerned for result publication, the subjective ones will be rechecked at the board office.

Water protest

Bhubaneswar: Protesters blocked the Phulbani-Berhampur National Highway to demand water in Kandhamal district on Monday. Hundreds of local residents from Rujangi village within Alami Panchayat in Kandhamal staged a roadblock on the NH,  protesting against the water scarcity they have been facing for the past three to four days.

Dhenkanal: Protesting hike in benchmark valuation of land, the district bar association on Monday ransacked the office of the sub-registrar and shut it down. They also staged a dharna in front of the office after locking the main gate. The advocates alleged that the district administration arbitrarily took such a step without consulting the members of the district valuation committee.

Balasore: Police on Monday arrested a 20-year-old youth on the charge of impersonating another person. The accused has been identified as Rahul Gupta, a resident of Neiabagh within Town police station limits. The accused was caught by a teacher of Kendriya Vidyalaya during his invigilation duty after he was found taking the JEE (Main) exam for one A. Chaudhary.

Probe begins

Koraput: Police on Monday began a probe into the video of an alleged persecution of a couple at G. Rautpur village under Dasmantpur block. The duo fled from the village on March 19 as their families were against the relationship.
