Welfare fund

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday announced a steep hike in welfare fund of police personnel from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 1 crore. Announcing this during the annual conference of havildar, constables and sepoys of Odisha police in the city on Saturday, Naveen said he believed that the police would continue to maintain high standards in delivery of public services. He asked the police personnel to display cordial and responsive attitude to the people at large. 

Maoist killed

Malkangiri: A Maoist leader, identified as Chinnabai of the Kalimela Dalam, was killed in an exchange of fire between police and the Rebels at Kapatuti forest of Chitrakonda on the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border in the early hours on Saturday. The cops seized a large number of Maoist-related materials from the spot following the encounter. Acting on a tip-off about the presence of a Maoist camp in the forest, two teams of security personnel led by the Malkangiri superintendent of police launched the operation on Friday night.

Body found

Cuttack: Police recovered the decomposed body of an unidentified man from the Kathajodi riverbed on Saturday and have begun a probe into the case.
