Seizure probe

Bhubaneswar: Two DIGs of prisons, Purna Chandra Dalei and Sumeeta Sarkar, arrived in Sambalpur to conduct an inquiry into the seizure of huge amount of cash from the office chamber of the jailor of Sambalpur Circle Jail on Tuesday. They visited the Sambalpur Circle Jail and office of the superintendent of police. The police had conducted a surprise raid on the Sambalpur Circle Jail and seized cash worth Rs 18.86 lakh, 9 mobile phones, SIM cards  and narcotic products from the office chamber of the jailor of Sambalpur Circle Jail, Sushanta Rout, on June 4.   

Suspension

Bhubaneswar: Panchayati raj minister Pradeep Maharathy suspended two officials on Tuesday during his surprise visit to Salepur block in Cuttack. Assistant block development officer Prasanna Kumar Mallick and accounts officer Bharati Priyadarshani were suspended for dereliction of duty. 

Protest

Kendrapara: Protests broke out at Babara village in Mahakalapada block of Kendrapara district on Tuesday against the suspension order of pharmacist Chaturbhuja Nayak of Babara Primary Health Centre. Irate locals ransacked the centre and tyres were burnt on the roads. Nayak had become a scapegoat for the absence of proper health care facilities in the centre, including lack of doctors. Director of health services Kailash Chandra Dash had directed the Kendrapara chief district medical officer  to suspend Nayak on Monday for treating patients under a tree.

Cop held

Sambalpur: A police constable was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly stealing a mobile phone from a travelling ticket examiner in a train. The accused has been identified as Sudhir Pradhan, constable of Government Railway Police of Cuttack division.
