Bank fraud arrest

Bhubaneswar: The economic offences wing of the state crime branch on Monday arrested mining trader Pravanjan Mohanty in connection with a Rs 4.5 crore bank fraud case. The anti-corruption wing arrested Mohanty, managing director of JBS Mineral and Overseas, following an order from Orissa High Court.   

BJD protest

Bhubaneswar: Intensifying its protest against the Centre’s decision to increase the minimum support price for paddy by a mere Rs 80 per quintal for the 2017-18 fiscal, the BJD on Monday staged demonstrations across the state. The party will continue its two-hour protests in front of the block offices across the state till July 18, said a party worker.

Body found

Balasore: The decomposed body of a minor boy was found hanging from a tree in the nearby forest of Saradanga village in Balasore district on Monday. Local residents and police identified the deceased as Prashant Das, a student of Class-IX of Damodar High School. He had been missing since July 7.

Contraband

Sambalpur: The wildlife cell of the state crime branch seized illegally exported wildlife products in Bargarh town during a joint operation with the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, New Delhi, on Monday. Crime branch special DG B.K. Sharma posted the news on Twitter where he said contraband wildlife products, including ivory, pangolin scales and bear nails were seized from three accused.
