Biswal bail

Bhubaneswar: Khurda District and Sessions Court on Tuesday dismissed the bail plea of arrested Choudwar-Cuttack BJD MLA Pravat Biswal, who is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. It is the second time his bail petition got rejected. On September 23, the CBI Special Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Bhubaneswar had rejected his bail plea. Biswal was admitted to Capital hospital on September 22 following his arrest by the CBI for his alleged link with the Seashore Group Ponzi scam.

New role

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday appointed Angul MLA and former minister Rajanikant Singh as the chairman of the State Minimum Wages Advisory Board. On the other hand, Khallikote MLA Purna Chandra Sethi, Nimapara MLA Samir Ranjan Dash and Daspalla MLA Purna Chandra Nayak have been appointed as new members of the board after its reconstitution.

Suspension

Baripada: Assistant sub-inspector of police at Town police station Sushant Mahakud was suspended on Tuesday for thrashing a minor girl during a helmet-checking drive on Monday. The suspension was prompted by protests of local residents against the incident.

Rescued

Rayagada: Three students of St Xavier's School here, who had gone missing six days ago, have finally been rescued from Visakhapatnam by Rayagada police.
