Cops yet to identify robbers

Balasore: Police are yet to identify the goons who fled with Rs 6.29 lakh in cash from a contractor near the State Bank of India main branch in Nilgiri on Thursday. Two motorcycle-borne persons snatched the cash away from Satyendra Behera, 55, a native of Taharpur under Bahanaga block. 

Liquor seized

Baripada: Police have seized a huge quantity of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) being sold illegally in the area. The local sub-divisional police officer carried out raids at various spots in Baramali and Dokai. The cops conducted the raids following tip off from reliable sources.

Timber

Balasore: Forest officials carried out a surprise raid and seized a timber-laden lorry near Nakichua in the district on Friday. Timber worth Rs 2 lakh was taken into the custody of the forest official. Officials said that they would conduct more such raids and they had set up their sources for collecting information about such illegal 
activities. 

Sarpanch held

Sambalpur: Padmapur police of Bargarh district have arrested six persons including the sarpanch of Charpali gram panchayat Pandava Meher for allegedly killing one Trinath Naik of Charpali village on February 9.

Notice to molester

Bhubaneswar: Police on Friday served notice to the private bank manager, who had allegedly molested a female employee of the bank, to appear before the Saheed Nagar police officials and zonal assistant commissioner of police within 14 days.

Assurance

Bhubaneswar: The civic body commissioner Krishan Kumar on Friday visited the Banaphul slum residents and assured them to provide cooked food and assistance of Rs 6,000 for the construction of their houses.

Eviction drive

Sambalpur: The district administration has officials have issued notices to 17 people in Burla, 10 in Hirakud and four here to vacate the government quarters that are taken illegally.

Murderer held

Kendrapara: Hiranya Routray, 45, was beaten to death by his younger brother at Gopalpur village in Mahakalpada police station limits on Friday. Police arrested the murderer and sent him to jail.
