Bhubaneswar: Government Plus Two colleges have written to the Council of Higher Secondary Examination expressing their inability to accommodate students from self-financing colleges during examinations citing lack of infrastructure and teachers. Council chairman Basudev Chattoi admitted to receiving letters from some colleges. Of the 1,523 junior colleges in the state, 376 are self-financing.
Farmer death
Nuapada: One more farmer allegedly committed suicide on Saturday at Kerameli village under Kodameri panchayat due to crop loss and debt burden. The deceased has been identified as Sahadeb Majhi, 45. His family members said Majhi was mentally disturbed due to poor crops and his failure to repay loan, which forced him to take the extreme step.
3 detained
Berhampur: Berhampur police on Saturday detained three criminals, after a youth was severely beaten up and shot in Phadiripara village. The cops also seized the firearm used in the crime. The victim was attacked allegedly over past enmity, said the cops. The youth sustained grievous injuries after the three youths beat him up with lathis and then shot him on the back.
Bhitarkanika
Rajnagar: The Bhitarkanika National Park will remain closed for 10 days from January 8 for the census of saltwater crocodiles and migratory birds. There will be no movement of tourists and ferrying of boats in and around the park during the census.
