Strike threat
Bhubaneswar: Contractual employees of the Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) have threatened to go on strike from July 28 demanding regularisation of jobs, allowances and jobs to family members of deceased workers under various rehabilitation schemes. The employees also alleged that the authorities were not managing their properties properly, which has made the OTDC a loss-making organisation.
Two dead
Bhubaneswar: Two persons were killed and six others injured in an accident at Pipili in Puri district on Sunday. The victims have been identified as Subhasmita, 8, daughter of Sachikant Nayak, and Sarojini Patra, 50, his relative. The injured persons were admitted to Capital Hospital here.
Protest
Bhubaneswar: Several people joined in a demonstration at a petrol pump near the secretariat after customers alleged that the pump had dispensed water instead of petrol. They said their vehicles developed technical snags after filling up at the pump. Some customers returned to the fuel station to stage the protest. Several other people also joined the demonstration in large numbers, sparking tensions in the area.
Children rescued
Berhampur (PTI): Police rescued 21 children working in Ganjam district as a part of Operation Muskan, a special operation launched to rescue Odisha’s missing children. The child labourers were rescued from Hinjili on Saturday, the first day of the third edition of the month-long drive. They were working in eateries, garages, grocery stores and garment shops, inspector in charge of Hinjili police station Prasant Kumar Sahoo said.
Investment
Bhubaneswar (PTI): The Odisha government has received investment commitments worth more than Rs 2 lakh crore from 74 companies. Odisha principal secretary, industries department, Sanjeev Chopra said the amount committed was from various sectors such fertiliser, refinery, petrochemical, chemical and plastics, food processing, healthcare, infrastructure and IT and electronics system design & manufacturing.
