Bhubaneswar, Feb. 24: Odia girl Jyotirmayee Bal has won the Miss Global India beauty contest held in Goa.

Following a series of auditions and grooming sessions, the dusky beauty won the title by defeating a number of participants, who had come from various parts of the country to attend the beauty contest held last week.

'I have been preparing myself for winning the title since a very long time. I have always wanted to make a career in films and modelling. Winning this title is, therefore, bound to give a boost to my confidence and aspirations,' said the 21-year-old Jyotirmayee, who had won the Miss Odisha title last year.

A prominent cultural outfit from Goa hosted the Miss Global India beauty pageant. The entire contest had a number of competitive sessions that tested the communication skills and personalities of the participants, along with judging their views on various issues that are prevalent in the society.

There were some initial jitters, but the national costume round was associated with sheer pride. Here, she represented the state. 'I wore a traditional pasapalli lehnga with specially designed ethnic jewellery. Our handloom traditions are quite rich, and I made sure that I showcase their charm properly,' said Jyotirmayee, who is a student of integrated MBA at BJB College in Bhubaneswar.

Jyotirmayee has plans to act in Bollywood someday, but at present, she is awaiting the release of her Odia debut film. Directed by Muralidhar, the film titled Akhi Bujhi Dele Tu is set to hit the screens in April.

'It is a very challenging phase of my life, and I have pinned a lot of hope on the film. Although my ultimate goal is to work in Hindi films, I also want to be recognised among the people of my state,' said Jyotirmayee. She plays the role of a traditional married woman in the film.

For Jyotirmayee, the ultimate title winners are her parents who have supported her throughout. 'I have been into modelling from a very young age, and they have always encouraged me in whatever I did. They have been a perfect balance between being protective and liberal, which immensely helped me in shaping my career,' said Jyotirmayee.
