Odia boy 6th in AIIMS test

Aditya Mishra from the state has secured the sixth rank in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) entrance exams, the results of which were declared today.

Bhubaneswar, June 18: Aditya Mishra from the state has secured the sixth rank in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) entrance exams, the results of which were declared today.

Clearing the entrance is key to admissions into the MBBS course in all the seven AIIMS in the country, including the one in Bhubaneswar.

The entrance exam was held on June 1. More than 2 lakh students had taken the test, of them only 2,250 have qualified.

"My teachers were the first to give me the good news and I am very happy with the results. I was expecting to be within the first 35 and I am glad to have come sixth. To clear the test, getting the concepts is very important. After that, one can give any number of study hours as required," said Bhubaneswar lad Aditya. Between the seven AIIMS in the country there are 672 MBBS seats.

Candidates who had appeared for the entrance test can access their results at www.aiimsexams.org, said an official. According to the website, the first phase of counselling will be held on July 7, 8 and 9. The second phase will be held on August 10 and the on September 7. The open counselling for AIIMS, New Delhi, will be held on September 23, if seats are still lying vacant.

The candidates have been asked to carefully read the instructions in the call letter.

Candidates will exercise their choice of the institute when called during the counselling in consonance with their rank in their respective categories. The choice made by the students will be final and no claim will be entertained in this regard, read a notification that was uploaded on www.aiimsexams.org.

The JEE (Advanced) results have also been announced. About 3,200 students from the state had taken the entrance exams. Rohit Kumar Jena (all-India ranking 57) was the zone topper for Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur region (which consists of Odisha, Sikkim, Jharkhand and Bengal). Abhisek Panda (all-India ranking 154) came second in the zone.

"I had done well in the exams but never expected to be the zone topper. It has come as a very pleasant surprise for my family and me. I used to study for 10 hours on a regular basis," said Rohit.

Manish Kumar Bera, Spandan Sahu and Abinash Senapati with all-India rankings of 416, 421 and 695, respectively, were some of the students in the top 1,000 rank holders.
