November rain

Two boys cover their heads to protect themselves from rain in Bhubaneswar on Thursday. Thursday's low-pressure area over the South Andaman Sea, which subsequently advanced further into the Bay of Bengal and transformed into a depression on Thursday, brought light showers to Bhubaneswar in the morning. The sudden rain brought life to a standstill for a couple of hours as residents were caught unawares. The day temperature also came down to 30.3°C from Wednesday's 33.5°C. The regional meteorological centre here has forecast that the depression over the Bay of Bengal will convert into a deep depression and further into a cyclonic storm in the next 24 to 48 hours. The phenomena will bring more rain to the Odisha's coastal belt, which includes the state capital.   Text by Sandeep Mishra, Picture by Ashwinee Pati
