Bhubaneswar, June 5: The new batch of students joining National Institute of Science Education and Research (Niser) will be able to attend classes on the new campus at Jatni, about 25km from here.

Classes for the next session will begin on August 3. Altogether 46,617 students took the National Entrance Screening Test (Nest) from 76 centres across the country. The counselling for admissions will be held in the second week of July.

Tomorrow, the institute would hold its fourth graduation ceremony for the 2015 batch on the permanent campus, along with its inauguration.

Atomic Energy Commission chairman Ratan Kumar Sinha is scheduled to attend the event as chief guest, said Niser director V. Chandrasekhar. Chief secretary G.C. Pati will also be present.

The institute has been functioning on the temporary campus of the Institute of Physics since 2007. It had partially shifted to its new campus in October. The director and the registrar's offices, administrative block, accounts section and parts of the research and development section were shifted in the first phase during October. "The remaining departments will be shifted phase wise," said the director.

However, classes were held on the temporary campus.

The 294.8-acre campus is being developed under the supervision of the directorate of construction, services and estate management of the department of atomic energy for Rs 500 crore.

However, the permanent water supply line to the campus through an integrated project worth Rs 115 crore catering to the needs of both Niser and IIT Bhubaneswar and Info City-II is yet to be over. "We have made alternative provision," said the director.
