Mother, son held for kin murder

Bisoi police in Mayurbhanj district have arrested a 55-year-old woman and her 28-year-old son on the charge of murdering her 42-year-old nephew on Saturday night .

Baripada: Bisoi police in Mayurbhanj district have arrested a 55-year-old woman and her 28-year-old son on the charge of murdering her 42-year-old nephew on Saturday night .

The accused duo have been identified as Maya Marandi and his son Manka Marandi of Panakhi village in Nalangapokharia village panchayat area.

The accused duo were apprehended from a bus stop when they were planning to flee to neighbouring Jharkhand after committing the crime. Rairangpur sub-divisional police officer Amulya Kumar Dhir said that the accused duo had confessed to the committing the crime during interrogation and the weapons used in the crime were also seized from their possession.

The deceased, Talaram Murmu, had come to his maternal uncle's house on Saturday evening. But he did not return to home and could not be traced despite frantic searches on Saturday night.

However, his body was found near the house of Maya on Sunday. The body bore several injury marks. But, Maya and her son Manka were not in the house .

The police began probe in the case with the help of the scientific team. A sniffer dog which was pressed into service gave some leads to the investigators. Not finding Maya and her son, the police suspecting their role in the murder and started looking for them.

"They have been booked under sections 302 and 201 of IPC and will be forwarded to court shortly," said the SDPO.
