The traffic police station near AG Square, Bhubaneswar |
Bhubaneswar, Nov. 15: The traffic wing of the city police has proposed to set up two additional police stations in the city.
The proposed police stations will come up at Khandagiri and Rasulgarh Square and help manage traffic.
The city has at present one traffic police station at AG Square and an extended unit at Chandrasekharpur.
Statistics available with the police revealed that around 62,964 traffic violators have been penalised between January and September this year. Besides, the traffic wing will also propose several steps to modernise the traffic management system.
The steps include setting up a mobile tower at AG Square with a modern control room, three additional towing vehicles, 400 stop boards and a 1,000-traffic sign.
At present, the traffic wing has two towing vehicles, which are insufficient to deal with unauthorised parking in the city.
The proposal also includes introduction of e-Challan, which will enable the police to collect fine through credit and debit cards. Similarly, a traffic park will also be set up to make the citizens aware about the existing traffic rules.
“We will soon send the proposal to the police commissioner for approval. Mobile squads have become an essential requirement for traffic management in the city and we will also propose to set up a number of mobile units,” said a senior cop.
Earlier, the city police had convened a meeting with a service provider for e-challan on Tuesday. The electronic challan will be generated by a machine, which will also take the photograph of the violator and will be connected to the police control room.
The traffic police have also decided to crack down on triple riding in two-wheelers in the city.
